My Twelve Deities draw their divine duties and powers from the ancient Chinese celestial system — the constellations once mapped as heavenly ministries within the night sky, such as the Purple Forbidden Enclosure.
What I do is bring these ancient celestial administrators to the stage, dressed in the formal robes of their divine offices.
While popular myths have been retold countless times, the stories of these silent “gods of order” — of their epics, records, hierarchies, and coexistence — are being revealed for the first time through my work.
In classical Chinese astronomy, Mingtang is not a specific celestial coordinate, but rather a "xingguan" (star official). It is not equivalent to a Western constellation, but rather an administrative division of the Eastern sky.
